Viral Modi–Meloni Candy Moment Triggers Confusion in Indian Stock Market
An interesting "Melodi"moment involving Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni led to a peculiar situation of misidentification in the Indian stock markets. While on his trip to Rome, Prime Minister Modi presented Mrs. Meloni with a pack of Melody toffees, which set off a huge trend on social media. In an attempt to make money out of this event, retail investors bought stocks of Parle Industries in bulk, which resulted in a gain of 5% in stock prices for the company to reach the upper circuit level. The trouble was that investors bought the wrong company’s shares because Parle Products, the company that manufactures Melody, Parle-G, and Monaco candies, is a private organization.
